If you don’t have dental coverage from an employer, you will find that most insurance companies do not offer individual dental insurance plans.

No Waiting Periods if Transitioning from Group Plan
Ameritas dental plans offer previous group dental participants a waving of any waiting periods if they transition to one of their plans within 30-days. This is the only individual plan that has this feature. If you are not transitioning from a group plan, they have waiting period of 6-months for minor work and 12-months for major dental work. There is no waiting period for preventive care on any plan.

Aetna Individual Advantage Dental Plans

Aetna Individual Advantage Dental has two plans to meet your meets – the Aetna Individual AdvantageSM Dental PPO Plan and the Aetna Individual AdvantageSM Dental PPO Plus Plan. They both offer coverage for:

- Basic carelike fillings, simple extractions, root canals, basic restorative work and more

Humana Preventive Plus Plan

If you’re looking for a dental PPO plan, this one is low-cost and provides coverage for preventive care, such as cleanings and X-rays, and offers discounts on basic and major services. Plus, there are no copayments for office visits.
With the Preventive Plus plan, you can choose to visit any dentist in the Humana dental network. There are more than 120,000 in-network dentists nationwide to choose from. Even though you have the option of paying monthly or yearly, this is a one year plan.
Plan features include:
- No copayments for office visits
- Annual Deductibles: $50 for an individual, $100 for a two person plan, $150 for a family
- Preventive services covered at 100% with in-network providers
- With in-network providers, many basic services are covered 50 percent and you get a discount on most major services
- No waiting period for preventive services; six month wait for basic services
- $1,000 annual maximum per person per year
- No exclusions for pre-existing conditions

Our Rating:
In our opinion, the CAREINGTON 500 Series Dental Plan is the one of the best discount dental plans available. Their fee reductions are two to three times larger than most discount programs and their network has over 54,000 dental providers to choose from. Some of the largest companies use Careington such as Humana, BlueCross BlueShield, Prudential, and Citigroup.
