Illinois Health Agents > Insurance News > I’m a H1B Visa holder in Illinois, what document types are needed for health insurance through GetCovered Illinois?

Since you are on an H-1B visa, your status is considered a valid non-immigrant visa, which is a lawfully present status for Get Covered Illinois.

For the document type, choose the option that matches the document you are uploading. For H-1B, the most common document types are:

  • Notice of Action (I-797)
  • Arrival/Departure Record (I-94/I-94A)
  • Foreign Passport

If you have them available, the best documents to submit are usually your current H-1B approval notice (I-797) and your most recent I-94. You can also include your passport/visa page if requested.

If the system asks for your immigration status, you can list it as:H-1B / valid non-immigrant visa

If Get Covered Illinois is also asking for proof related to subsidy eligibility, they may separately ask whether you have employer-sponsored coverage. In that case, they may want a letter from your employer showing whether coverage is offered and what your cost is for the lowest-cost self-only plan.tent
